Party Drink

A visually striking layered shooter that combines the fruity sweetness of grenadine with rich coffee liqueur and creamy Irish cream. Despite lacking any chocolate ingredients, this specific combination creates a surprising flavor profile that tastes remarkably like chocolate milk.

What it tastes like

The aroma is dominated by sugary pomegranate and roasted coffee. On the palate, the drink starts with a heavy syrup texture followed by notes of rich dairy and espresso. It has a thick, coating mouthfeel and a long, sweet finish.

Ingredients

  • Grenadine0.5 oz
  • Kahlua0.5 oz
  • Baileys Irish Cream0.5 oz

Preparation

  1. 1

Pour the Grenadine directly into the bottom of a shot glass.

  2. 2

Place a bar spoon upside down against the inside edge of the glass, just above the Grenadine layer.

  3. 3

Slowly pour the Kahlua over the back of the spoon to float it on top of the Grenadine.

  4. 4

Repeat the process with the Baileys Irish Cream, floating it on top of the Kahlua to complete the layers.

  5. 5

    Serve immediately.

Substitutions

  • GrenadineRaspberry syrup — This provides a sharper acidity and a more authentic fruit flavor than standard pomegranate syrup.
  • KahluaTia Maria — Tia Maria offers a more intense vanilla bean aroma and a slightly drier coffee profile.
  • Baileys Irish CreamRumChata — Using a cream liqueur with a rum base adds cinnamon and spice notes to the top layer.

Variations

Bruce's Mint

Swap the coffee liqueur for white crème de menthe to create a profile reminiscent of a chocolate-covered berry.

Blackberry Bruce

Replace the grenadine with crème de cassis for a deeper berry flavor and a dark purple bottom layer.
