How to Make It

  1. Juice the lemons and set the liquid aside.
  2. Peel and grate the fresh ginger roots.
  3. Place the grated ginger and the cayenne pepper into a piece of cheesecloth and tie it securely into a knot.
  4. Submerge the cheesecloth bag in the gallon of water and allow it to soak for approximately 15 minutes to infuse the flavor.
  5. Remove the spice bag.
  6. Stir in the sugar and the reserved lemon juice until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  7. Chill the mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator.
  8. Serve cold over ice.
